I agree very much with this article, but I think it applies to the artist. For me, I do not enjoy painting and I often think of any other materials to use besides paint. Finding non tradition materials available at construction stores have always appealed to me and I find it more creative. But to the people who enjoy painting, I could see that art stores with more traditional mediums would be semifinal. I see how great prices of artwork can be made with "not great" materials, but the quality of the art supplies available at the art stores can be beneficial. I agree with the article in the fact that art is not defined by the simple known materials. Great works can be made with the unknown, unusual, and unused materials. In today's day and age I find creativity and originality very hard to find because so many different ideas have been done. When artists take something normal but use an interesting material to make it different, I am always impressed.
This is shown in these pictures where the artist made these giant fish sculptures out of plastic bottles. The use of light, size, color, materials, etc. make this piece very beautiful.
For this artwork I really like the shades of color and the result of how the grass pieces turned out. It showed that shades and values can be reached even with non-traditional materials.
