I chose appropriation as my postmodern principle, which uses pre-existing images but with a little bit of change. The art to me is almost a parody of the original and that's what I focused on for my project. For my project I was walking outside and saw the labels for "No Parking" and "Fire Lane". In the moment I changed "Fire Lane" to the only thing I could think of at the time, Louis Lane. Then when I was deciding what to do, I played around with this idea and tried to find for words, but ended up really liking Louis Lane. I wanted my final product to look like the text style of the other words, but that made me nervous that maybe it was illegal since it could throw off where to go in an emergency. To do this, I knew I needed something that would 100% come off, so I decided to use chalk. When I found out chalk paint was a thing, I used it to better get the effect of a painted look for my project. I started by making stencils from the previous words and making them the same size, so it would look as close to the real thing as possible. When I finished with the text I really wanted the project to be more distinct, so I decided to add a superman logo. Using stencils, I painted the logo right next to the words. I really like how this project turned out. I also like the fact that it was my first idea and came so quickly to me which I ended up using. I also noticed how postmodern principles can mix with each other, I could have gone with text part as my project, but I think that adding the superman logo made it appropriation.

I think this was very creative and a really good idea. I feel like I wouldn't have thought of this, but I like it a lot.
