My beehive is unfinished because it fell from where it was hanging one day. I originally started with a wire framework. This included 3 different sized wire rings that reflected each other. I hung these apart using string. The string moved around a lot and made the piece uneven, which I tried to fix with glue, but then that created a problem when I was applying the paper. Wrapping the paper around the rings was a lot more complicated than I thought it was going to be. The paper kept coming apart and it was hard to work on the inside once I got a row complete. I noticed that the paper was crumpling up in some places so I googled how to make paper stiffer. I got a recipe which uses salt, flour, and water. This worked fine, I just left too many clumps of salt and it turned my colored paper darker than what I had wanted it. I then started painting it, like seen on the photo. I kind of want to try again with this piece because I came really close, I just messed the structure up, which then made the whole thing really complicated while working on it. |
